ROOMS OF OUR CHILDHOOD
Do you happen to be a kid from the 90s? Do you happen to have a VHS tape from your childhood? Let's create Rooms of our Childhood together!

Rooms of Our Childhood is a multimedia installation that explores the memories and experiences of people from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds who have grown up during the same period of time, from 1993 to 1999 and who live now in France. The installation builds upon my previous work, The Room of Our Childhood, which premiered at ThessFringe https://thessfringe.com/events/the-room-of-our-childhood/.

The installation will consist of a web of rooms. 4 walls of each room will be turned into 4 projection screens, showcasing personal videos from participants from around the world. The videos will be edited and curated to create a seamless flow of images that evoke the essence of childhood and the unique experiences of each participant. The project aims to investigate how similar or different childhoods can be for people born in different parts of the world and who happen to call France their home. By juxtaposing multiple childhoods from different backgrounds and experiences, the installation creates a space for reflection and dialogue about the shared experiences and unique differences in our lives.

It's a PAID OPPORTUNITY! The renumeration starts with 50 EUROS and goes up depending on the size of the contribution!

I already have onboard a Portuguese filmmaker André Almeida Rodrigues. His work “Return to the childhood home before the last farewell” was distinguished with 4 Honorable Mentions and has 25 screenings in 16 countries. For example, the film was selected to Fantasporto – Porto International Film Festival, Los Angeles International Children's Film Festival and ACAMPADOC. André Almeida Rodrigues kindly submitted his videos to take part in my project Rooms of our childhood.
ROOMS OF OUR CHILDHOOD
As someone who was born in Gomel, Belarus, and has already lived in five different countries, I deeply understand the sense of displacement and disconnection that can come from constant movement and a lack of a stable sense of place. I understand the sense of isolation that can come with being labeled as an immigrant, alien. Through my project, I want to challenge these labels and showcase the humanity and personal stories behind them. By presenting simple and artless scenes of everyday life of ordinary families, I aim to show people that immigrants and aliens and refugees are not just labels, but real individuals with complex histories and experiences. In today's world, where war, violent propaganda and hatred seem to be on the rise, it can feel especially challenging to connect with others and feel a sense of belonging. Despite this, I believe that the power of storytelling and personal narratives can help bridge these gaps and create connections between individuals from different backgrounds and experiences.
In addition, I will conduct thorough interviews with each participant to gain insight into their personal histories and how their memories have been shaped by their individual experiences and cultural backgrounds. These interviews will be recorded and displayed alongside the videos, providing a deeper context for the audience to understand the memories on display.
